Stavanger
Western Norway: Towns | Holidays | Attractions
The Stavanger region consists of Randaberg, Stavanger, Sandnes,
Sola, Gjesdal, Klepp, Time and Hå on the west coast of
Norway. This a popular area due in no small part to its strong
links to the rest of Europe via its busy harbour and Sola airport.
Of course its popularity might also have something to do with
the awesome scenery all around this bustling town.
Take a boat trip along the magnificent Lysefjord, a tour
to the spectacular Pulpits Rock, or go island hopping. There
are plenty of cultural events in the area too.
Stavanger itself is the fourth largest city in Norway and
is a universtiy town. The city has been chosen to be a European
Capital of Culture alonfg with Liverpool and is hoping it can
build on its cultural heritage. Stavanger is also Norway's
oil capital. Festivals
and events include both the petroleum industry, food from the
field to the table, humour, jazz and classical music.
Cultural events flourish in a city with a long
tradition and history, and with a city centre consisting of small houses and
cobblestone streets.
