Holiday Ideas in Western Norway
Western Norway: Towns | Holidays | Attractions
Basing your holiday around an existing tourist route fopr all or part of your stay is a great idea whether you are driving or using public transport.
The Adventure Road (Eventyrveien) is made up of a number of routes allowing you to explore the Hardangerfjord and Hardangervidda area of western Norway and is ideal if you are heading to or from Oslo. Starting from Bergen, you can stop off at places such as Strandebarm on Hardangerfjorden, or Geilo to explore further.

If you are basing yourself in the city, Bergen is arguably the best place on the west coast for a first visit to Norway. There is so much to see in and around the area and what visit wouldn't be without the famous Norway in a Nutshell tour. Just one of the routes you might pick will see you taking a boat along the coast and inland on Sognefjorden to Flåm, maybe stopping a night. Then along and up the winding Flåm railway to Myrdal and Voss, the highest point on the Bergen Railway, before heading back to Bergen.
