This area
has some 5.500 inhabitants living around an active shopping
centre at Brennåsen where Songdalen Art Society,
and others, sell arts and crafts products. The local Authority
Administration Centre is at Nodeland, 12 km west of Kristiansand,
a short distance from the sea and the archipelago. There
are large forested areas with calm lakes, where there is
no difficulty in finding a peaceful spot. Meandering peacefully
through the Songdalen valley, the River Songdalselva provides
plenty of opportunities for paddling and fishing. "Juvet" (the
Gorge) at Underåsen is an extraordinary natural feature.
Around 1 km long and with a height variance of 100 m, the
gorge is an important geo-historical site. There is an
area of Norway with one of the greatest density of elk.
