Oslo
A city break in Oslo need not mean simply museums and parks for Oslo also has the countryside right on its doorstep. Even though the city is small in terms of population compared with other European cities, when it comes to area then it is big. What other city break can offer you kayaking, mountain biking, and nordic walking so close to the city centre - not that many. In addition to the ski jump at Holmenkollen which, let's face it, is probably not everybody's cup of tea, there is cross country skiing in Oslo Forest which surrounds the city and two alpine ski resorts within 30 minutes of the city. An then there are the museums and parks. The two attractions I would recommend would be the unmissable Vigeland's Park & Museum with over 200 sculptures set in a delightful and peaceful parkland setting; and secondly the Holmenkollen area. Take the T-bane Blue line (Line 1) to the Holmenkollen Station to see the ski jump. Continue to the end of the line and you will come to Frognerseteren. There is a delightful restaurant here with views over the mountains and harbour - a unforgettable experience. So - city break long or short, come here once and you'll be back.

Hiking
This particular area is a particular favourite with hikers and for the experienced there is a well organised vast net work of routes and cabins laid out ready for you to explore. However delightful it is, hiking across wild terrain is serious business so it shouldn't be attempted without proper experience. The DNT routes stretch across Eastern Norway and the rest of the country and full information can be found on their web site (below)
