Getting Around by Air
Air Travel in Norway
The
geography of Norway is such that domestic air travel
within Norway is well developed with over 50 airports
and
landing strips making even the most northernmost areas
accesible.
There are a number of airlines operating
internal flights in Norway; SAS, Braathens, Widerøe,
Norwegian, CoastAir and Danish Air Transport. Most
can provide special summer prices.
Norwegian Airlines
Norwegian
Norwegian Air Shuttle AS is an independent, privately-owned airline
employing approx. 300 people. In September 2002
Norwegian launched a program of low-cost domestic flights
between Oslo and Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø using
a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft. On April 5th, 2002 we
initiated low-cost flights to destinations in Spain and
Portugal. During the summer of 2003, the network was
expanded with flights to the Norwegian cities Alta, Harstad/Narvik,
Bodø, Molde og Ålesund, and international
routes to London and Stockholm.
Widerøe
Widerøe has more than 300 daily departures to
41 destinations - and more than one million travellers
during a year. By some people, Widerøe is still
being considered as "the small airline up north".
Indeed they are not that big, but they do serve 41
destinations within Norway and Northern-Europe. That
makes Widerøe's
network twice the size of the combined domestic
networks of Scandinavian Airlines and Braathens.
SAS Brathens
SAS Braathens is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) Group and was established in the spring of 2004, based on SAS Norway and Braathens. SAS Braathens operates routes in Norway, and also between Norway and the rest of Europe. The airline is the largest in Norway, and has 440 departures daily. SAS Braathens carries around 9 million passengers per annum.
CoastAir
Coast Air operates between the Norwegian west coast
towns Haugesund and Bergen as well as to the
south-eastern part of Norway. They operate
daily flights between Haugesund and Sandefjord
and between Haugesund and Oslo.
SAS
Scandinavia's international airline operates a few
domestic routes in Norway.
DAT
DAT is a Danish airline delivering everything from
fixed scheduled flights to charter and transport assignments. Internal
Norwegian routes:
