Public Holidays & Flag Days
in Norway
Like all good country men and women the Norwegians like their public holidays and no more is that so in the month of May with no less than four public holidays. The biggest of these must be 17th May - Syttende Mai - or Consitution Day. Like all countries, don't expect many shops to be open on any of these public holidays.

As you will notice when you visit Norway, almost every house it seems has a flag pole where the red and white can be seen fluttering on many special occassions, not just public holidays. These Flag Days are proudly celebrated. Many houses proudly fly a pennant throughout the year, but at dawn the full Norwegian flag is hoisted and should always be lowered at dusk or 9pm, whichever is the soonest.
